Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for a Technical Specialist within the Information Resources Distributed Computing team. The position is to be based in either Plymouth or Exeter. The team is responsible for the design, provision, monitoring and support of the End User Computing services throughout the company.

You will report to the IR Distributed Computing Technical Architect and along with the other Technical Specialists in the team, play a senior role in the team’s strategy, support and implementation as well as taking on major project management responsibilities.

The role may require travel to sites throughout the Company and therefore a driving
licence is preferable.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

*The successful candidate may initially be appointed on a lower salary until the successful completion of any required training.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with both the Service Desk, the Field Team and customers to resolve escalated, complex and difficult technical issues.
  • Perform on-site hardware and software root cause fixes across multiple sites.
  • Manage large scale projects that have a wide and varied impact on customers and staff.
  • Represent the Company and IR within specialist groups.
  • Work closely with other IR departments and Business departments to ensure products and applications utilised are fit for purpose.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation, through clear and accurate records of systems and related business procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be a good team player and a good communicator who is able to make decisions using your own initiative to solve a range of technical challenges.

You should have extensive and advanced knowledge of Windows Operating Systems (Desktop and Server), Endpoint Management Systems, Networking and PowerShell.
