Job Introduction

Numbers underpin everything we do at Western Power Distribution.  Scrutinised, analysed and interpreted, they help us understand where we are and where we’re going. It’s about being responsive, reliable and easy to deal with. This is why our Finance and Audit functions are so important. We ensure the right business decisions are made time and again.

An opportunity has arisen for a Financial Assistant working within the Management Accounting Team covering Swansea and West Wales Distribution areas.  This is an outstanding opportunity to undertake a role that aims to deliver a professional service to both financial and non-financial colleagues.

The main purpose of the job is to provide pro-active management accounting support to Western Power's engineering business.  Whilst not directly involved in the production of financial and regulatory reporting, the role will support the provision of accurate and timely financial information.

As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office working in our Swansea office and home working.  Hybrid working can be considered once your initial training is complete.

* Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all necessary training has been undertaken.  Should you be selected for interview this will be discussed in more detail.

If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic .

Main Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Supporting the capital project closure process
  • Preparing and posting journals
  • Identifying, understanding and advising on project budget variances
  • Reviewing budget and coding allocations
  • Analysing cost allocations against ledger codes
  • Providing support to the Financial Services Officers

The Ideal Candidate

This is an entry level role and ideally you will have a good basic knowledge of accounting concepts.  Entry level accounting qualifications would be an advantage as would experience of working in a Management Accountancy Team, but are not essential.

Good numeracy and computer skills, including an excellent knowledge of  MS Excel, are essential.  You should also have great communication skills and be confident in dealing with financial and non-financial colleagues alike.

A pro-active approach, the ability to manage your own workload and working to tight deadlines is also essential as well as the confidence and ability to challenge when required.

As you may be required to travel to other offices a full driving licence is essential.

About The Company

If this is your opportunity to join us, you’ll find we offer a supportive, rewarding and friendly working environment where you’ll be empowered to build a career. Along the way, you’ll be invested in, be enabled by the latest technology and find that we’re always interested in evolving our systems and processes so that we get even better, every day.

In return, you’ll enjoy a package of benefits designed to reward your hard work and incentivise your ambition. In addition to your competitive salary, we offer a competitive contributory pension scheme where the company will double match your pension contributions up to a maximum company contribution of 10%. You will also have access, subject to eligibility criteria, to join our annual Share Save plan.

You will receive a generous annual leave entitlement on joining, starting at 26 days rising to 28 days following 10 years’ service, plus 8 bank holidays. In addition, you will be able to access support via our Employee Assistance Programme, including musculoskeletal and physiotherapy services.
