Job Introduction

Working within NGED’s IT Cyber Security Team, an exciting opportunity has become available for a Business Continuity Planning & Disaster Recovery Manager based at Exeter or Plymouth. 

Key features of the Cyber Security Team include monitoring all areas of cyber security risk to evaluate and maintain threats that protect us from potential malicious attacks on our systems.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Cyber Security Engineering Architect you will focus on the enhancement of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) & Disaster Recovery (DR) within IT and to the wider business.

Key features include:

  • Planning, coordination and technical design of scheduled and out of band disaster recovery tests and cyber incident response exercises
  • Support the review and maintenance of BCP/DR policies and processes, including recovery point/time Objectives (RPO’s/RTO’s) and recovery timelines
  • Provide ongoing subject matter expert guidance, assistance and training to drive continual improvement of complex BCP/DR processes across IT and other key NGED business units
  • Keeping up to date with industry standards and best practices, advising the business
  • Point of contact in relation to cyber BCP/DR procedures with third parties
  • Identification and escalation of business continuity related risks (internal/external)
  • Assist the risk and compliance team with the maintenance of risk assessments and attack trees
  • Responsible for the creation and delivery of cyber security awareness training across the business
  • Lead, mentor and support Cyber Security Analysts
  • Assist in budget setting/planning and reporting of spend
  • Thorough understanding of the Network and Information Systems (NIS)  Regulations and other relevant regulatory requirements to enable advice to be given to key stakeholders and to ensure compliance
  • Engage with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and other external bodies regarding Cyber Security and BCP/DR when relevant
  • Other technical cyber security implementation support as required

The Ideal Candidate

You will have a thorough knowledge of disaster recovery and incident response concepts and will understand the need and means of achieving a healthy cyber security culture in a large critical national infrastructure (CNI) organisation.

The ability to manage your own time and other team member’s workload with a proven track record of successful communication with senior management and/or executive and board members is essential.

As the post you are applying for attracts a National Security Vetting clearance there are further eligibility requirements, information can be found on the gov.uk website. To meet national security vetting requirements you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years for Security Clearance (SC) prior to the date of application. There are exceptions to this however and examples of these include:

  • you have been serving overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of HM Government
  • you were studying abroad
  • you were living overseas with parents
