Job Introduction
Join us at National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) during this exciting phase of growth! As part of our Efficiency Delivery programme, we're welcoming 140 new Team Leaders to our organisation. These roles play a pivotal role in driving performance and supporting the business with work volumes to ensure excellent customer service is delivered to our 8 million customers.
We have an opportunity for a Team Leader working across the West Midlands licence area within the Major Projects team. Reporting into the Field Operations Team Manager being responsible for leading a group of Trades Persons carrying out the inspection and maintenance of the 132kV distribution network.
The key focus of this role is to lead an efficient and productive team across a region. Key considerations for the successful running of your team include: ensuring they are working compliantly within H&S policies, coordinating programmes of work for them to undertake, maximising efficiencies in delivery, ensuring your team has the appropriate development and authorisations and effectively managing performance on a 1:1 basis.
The starting salary will be £41,459 until the training is successfully completed, rising to £44,992 with further progression by annual increments to a maximum of £50,885.

Main Responsibilities
- Ensuring your teams adherence to Health and Safety regulations
- Efficient scheduling of work activities
- Collaboration with other teams to manage workload
- Driving team productivity and individual performance management
- Maintaining a full schedule of work for the team
- Ensure our people have the appropriate training and work authorisations to support a safe and productive working environment
- Respond quickly and professionally to customer complaints
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role will be an excellent communicator with a proven track record of managing teams, and will be experienced in being an escalation point for both the team and external customers.
- The ability to develop a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation, Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 and Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- Organised, with strong problem solving and the ability to think and plan ahead
- Good communicator with the presence to build strong relationships with our customers
- An understanding of and the ability to effectively manage performance
- Knowledge of craft roles or the ability/willingness to quickly develop your understanding of these roles and the work activities in your team
- A NRSWA qualification or understanding of NRSWA legislation is desirable but full training can be provided.
- This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
