Job Introduction
An opportunity is available for an Engineering Specialist (Overhead) in the Projects team, based at Worcester, Gloucester Hereford or Ludlow. Reporting to the Team Manager, as an Engineering Specialist you will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of a combination of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems depending on experience and aptitude on the distribution network and at non-operational sites up to and including 132kV.
*Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Main Responsibilities
- Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the 33kV, 66kV and 132kV network.
- Mange a range of projects using the APMP model and report on KPIs during their lifecycle.
- Advise own and other team members on innovations in electricity network management and automation.
- Identify training needs of own and other team members and provide training as necessary.
- Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
- Carry out network operations including the issue of all safety documents up to 132kV.
- Issue planned network outages and third-party shutdown notices, make appointments with customers.
- Exercise leadership. Request assistance when outside capability or authority.
- Alter own short term programme to meet changes in circumstances, within constraints.
- Assisting with the assessment and authorisation of operational staff
- You may be required to undertake Standby duties on a rota as part of this appointment.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate is required to have a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 and if not already attained will be required to undertake HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
You’ll be a Senior Authorised Person with experience working in a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Independent DNO (iDNO) or Independent Connection Provider (ICP).
You’ll also have demonstrable experience in working in a high hazard industry where health and safety is paramount and conversant with construction management regulations (CDM 2015). Also essential is experience of formally managing and reporting on projects and project related finances.
As an overhead specialist you will be able to meet the main responsibilities of the role as set out in this advertisement, and will have specific and demonstrable experience in the engineering principles of overhead routing, jointing / terminating, testing, commissioning and fault investigation, including a broad understanding of the associated protection and telecoms requirements for the same.
